Several factors influence student academic performance, including the socio-economic status of their parents. The student's parents' occupation, educational level, and family income all contribute to the academic performance of a student. Various studies have shown that students from higher socio-economic backgrounds perform better than students from low socio-economic backgrounds. These factors include the parents' income standard, and educational qualifications, as well as the type of accommodation they receive. Several studies have concluded that gender is an important factor in student achievement, with students from low socio-economic backgrounds showing poorer performance. The findings, however, are not conclusive. However, some researchers have noted that the lack of access to certain resources may be a contributing factor. Moreover, the study focuses on first-year students and recent transfer students. In addition, the study reveals that disadvantaged students are less likely to watch pre-recorded lectures. While the relationship between students and lecturers is not completely influenced by the distance between them, it does influence the amount of study skills that students engage in. While lecturers were friendly and attentive to the students' needs, this did not translate into an increase in student engagement. While they might have provided the structure necessary to improve students' study skills, students did not seem to be aware of how to utilize them effectively in this new mode of learning. |
